About Me
I began my career early, graduating with a BS in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York in 1981. Initially, I gained valuable experience working with colleagues in hospital, home health, and out-patient settings in Massachusetts and California. I began my private practice in Santa Cruz County, California in 1990, moving to Boulder County, Colorado in late 2010. I was wise to delve into continuing education early on, to keep learning skills and enabling me to help more of my clients, and found Manual Therapy most effective.
CranioSacral Therapy entered my life in 1986 when I sought out help for my own shoulder nerve impingement issue which was not responding to other health care. After such immediate success, I initiated my training in CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute in 1987, continuing through Advanced CranioSacral Therapy II level. My education includes Pediatric CranioSacral Therapy and Advanced BioAquatic Exploration (with Dolphin Assisted Therapy), and I was a CranioSacral Therapy Teaching Assistant from 1998-2001.
Treating new Moms as well as older women who expressed their chronic low back/pelvic pain and bladder problems began after birthing their children, I became more interested in Women's Health. I sought out further continuing education in this specialty in 1997, including Pelvic Floor Therapy and Visceral Manipulation, continuing through Advanced Visceral Manipulation II level. Colleagues' enthusiasm about Lymph Drainage Therapy encouraged me to begin that training in 1999, continuing through Advanced Lymph Drainage Therapy level.
Helping Moms naturally led to treating their babies and children, predominately with CranioSacral Therapy, for prevention or health issues (minor or complex). I improvised play activities with kids using principles of CranioSacral Therapy based on their assessment. Soon I found strength in many of these games, for integration and home program. With over three decades of experience now with Pediatrics, my expertise in combining Manual Therapy with Play Therapy facilitates quicker responses and longer carry over after sessions.
I had an early interest in Movement Education beyond my primary Physical Therapy education. I trained in Yoga, Functional Mobilization™, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), Core Stabilization, Movement Re-education, The Feldenkrais Method®, Developmental Movement, Continuum Movement, and Qigong. My personal exploration of improvisational dance led to further studies, including Authentic Movement and Body-Mind Centering®. I integrate Movement Education into individual sessions and classes.
My intention is to pass on my knowledge, skill, and experience to my clients through individual sessions and classes, helping our community find health resilience to better enjoy life here in Colorado, on the Front Range.
"I am most appreciative of your thoroughness and your diligence to make sure we stayed on track. We covered a lot of territory on many aspects." W.P.
