Women's Health
It is my privilege to be in the forefront of the Women's Health movement, learning from Physical Therapy pioneer Elizabeth Noble, PT (deceased January 2016) and co-teachers Dr Hollis Herman, DPT and Kathe Wallace, PT. In addition, my advanced training in Visceral Manipulation, Lymph Drainage Therapy, and CranioSacral Therapy enables me to assess and treat women's health issues more effectively and efficiently.
PREGNANCY, BIRTH & POSTPARTUM
In some countries, Physical Therapists work with new mothers in the hospital immediately after birth, to assist them in their transition back to full health. Gift yourself or a new Mom you know to therapy with a Women's Health specialist, during pregnancy and postpartum period. It is not uncommon during pregnancy for former health issues or new ones to present. Women often believe these conditions will disappear after birth, but commonly they only worsen, so it is best to address them early on. After birth, all women need assistance restoring their abdominal and pelvic floor stability, to prevent diastasis recti and incontinence, and some women need extra care recovering from more traumatic birth. Postpartum, the strain of lifting, carrying, moving, and breastfeeding baby often causes musculoskeletal issues, quicker to treat while acute.

HORMONES
One of my greatest satisfactions in working with women comes from assisting them with hormonal balance. So many women, young and old, feel they need to accept their hormonal symptoms, or resort to hormonal replacement therapy (HRT). While medication certainly is indicated in some cases, the little known alternative of Lymph Drainage Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy often does the trick, supported by self-care. Or, these therapies can assist in decreasing the dosage of HRT. I have helped young women with premenstrual and menstrual symptoms such as sore breasts, bloated belly, digestive distress, irritability, cramps and excessive bleeding. Peri-menopausal and menopausal women with symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and heart palpitations also benefit from my care.
Our hormones transport through our lymph system, so when that system gets clogged due to an overload of environmental toxins, stress hormones, and inflammation, it can not filter properly and balance our hormones. Lymph Drainage Therapy unclogs this system, and lymphatic self-care can help keep it filtering properly. A healthy endocrine system also supports hormonal balance, and CranioSacral Therapy assists with that, by freeing up the restrictions around the glands so they may function optimally. Ultimately, my manual assessment tells me what is needed for your unique body to balance.
FERTILITY & SEXUALITY
Infertility is affecting more women today and can also be helped with Manual Therapy, beginning with my thorough manual evaluation. Sometimes Visceral Manipulation is needed to release the fascial restrictions around the uterus and ovaries. Other times, CranioSacral Therapy is needed to free up the pituitary gland, the "master gland" of the endocrine system. Lymph Drainage Therapy complements by balancing the hormones. I take great delight in assisting women in boosting their fertility, so conception comes with ease. I also take great pleasure in helping women improve their sex drive and enhance their sexual appreciation.
PELVIC FLOOR
Medical conditions involving the pelvic floor may be evaluated and treated by a Physical Therapist, as we do any other area of the body, with special training for the uniqueness of this region. Pelvic floor weakness may cause incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. Medical research has revealed that half of the women who are briefly instructed in Kegel exercises to strengthen their pelvic floor, or given a handout explaining how to perform these exercises, fail to correctly contract this muscle group. When these muscles are considerably weak, a woman may actually worsen her condition by doing Kegels incorrectly. My assessment and treatment plan is specific for the condition of your pelvic floor. Pelvic pain, painful intercourse, urinary frequency, and interstitial cystitis are all health issues related to pelvic floor tightness that I have experience treating with Pelvic Floor Manual Therapy.
AUTOIMMUNE & MORE
Other women's health issues that respond well to Manual Therapy, by itself or as a complement to other care, include thyroid and other autoimmune conditions, breast cyst and cancer, uterine fibroid and cancer, ovarian cyst and cancer, cervical dysplasia and cancer, post-mastectomy and post-surgical lymphedema, endometriosis, and fibromyalgia. Allow me to help you restore your health resilience!
"During my third trimester of pregnancy, I began experiencing a great deal of discomfort due to baby drop, and sought out methods to relieve the pain. Germaine was referred to me by my physician. Her gentle and unique approach was holistic, soothing, and I felt remarkably better within a few days. A follow up treatment got me where I needed to be in comfort, and I've been feeling great since. I would highly recommend." K.H.D.E.
